Textbooks Make You Money
December 13, 2007
It is nearing the end of the semester for college students. If you are a college student or know some students that you can sell their books for (charge a middleman fee) do so. It is much more profitable to sell books online than to sell through a campus’ bookstore. These books will move rapidly once the semester begins so be sure to be on the lookout in the usual spots for donated textbooks and list them before January so you can have them in the marketplace before the Spring semester begins.
Science related textbooks sell for the most while Literature textbooks typically sell cheaper.
Book Listing Service
December 13, 2007
I just found this cool book listing service that is free and saves a ton of time because with this tool you wont have to go from website to website finding the best price for your book.
Here is a quote from their website describing what they do, “There are a bunch of websites that offer to buy your used books. The prices that these sites offer can vary widely, and it is difficult and time consuming to check all of them. Instead you can just put in the book’s ISBN Number here, and we’ll search all of the available sites for what they are currently buying the book for. Now you can easily see where you can get the most money for your used books.
This service is provided for free, with no registration required. “
The website is:

Finding Inventory
December 13, 2007
All dealers get books in the same places… walk-in traffic, garage sales, Goodwill stores, Salvation Army stores, church sales, library sales, estate auctions, newspaper ads, scouts, other bookstores, remainder outlets, etc. Pay more for fewer but better books. You are competing for those higher quality books.
Supply and demand
The biggest problem that your online bookstore faces is the fact that you can’t easily apply standard retail wisdom. Books on retailing will tell you that you can go for volume with low prices, or go for service with high prices.
Set your prices high enough on your decent books. Remember that your supply is limited. It’s easy to get a lot of low quality books in your inventory. But it’s difficult to maintain a stock of really good books.
Starting Out

The chat rooms and bookseller forums offer valuable general information, news and bookselling hints for both the novice and veteran seller.
An Open Secret
When selling books online, the primary tool for anyone seeking to sell or buy books on the Internet are the Metasites, or book search sites. For checking book prices, availability and general bibliographic information, the main book search sites are far more comprehensive than the search pages on eBay or the largest book listing services because they search the databases of all the main listing services (and parts of eBay and the Barnes & Noble site) for specific titles.
